Welcome! What the heck is a Community Action Night? Well, it is less Hacking and more Night? Maybe… Once a week we get together to work on projects.  Oh, and have some food and drinks too.  It is really important in this technical world of ours to remember the community aspect of civic engagement by seeing each other, collaborating and getting to know each other.  Besides, it’s just nice to work around people that are a delight once in a while. And we sure are a delight.

Now, what to expect? Well, here is a picture of a typical night…

Yep, we sit around a large table or break out into teams and collaboratively work together.   Let’s talk “work”, we are more than just coders.  There are lots of ways to contribute outside of just writing code.  We have lots of need for writing, social media, marketing, designing, public relations, event planning and more.  If you have a skill or want to learn something new, I’m sure we have a way for you to practice it.

Good things to know:

  • Bringing your computer will allow you to get to work that night but not a requirement to attend.
  • Your first night we will do an overview of Code for Charlotte and Civic Technology.
  • Our main communication tool is Slack. You can request an invitation here. That will be one of the first things you do on your first Hack Night.
  • We meet at Hygge Coworking at Camp North End. Here is a map.
  • While we do meet most Tuesday nights, it’s always a good idea to double check and RSVP on Meetup.

We hope that gives you an idea of what to expect from a Hack Night and makes you totally excited to join us.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
